Mrs. Abbas’ Art Room
The blog of a teaching artist.
10/28/2017 0 Comments October 7, 2017: Painting PerceptionThis week at our Saturday morning workshop, I observed and assisted while another teacher led the instruction. The lesson was focused around the book They all Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel. As the students trickled in, the instructor had them fill out a T-chart with one side asking for their favorite animals and the other asking for a list of feelings. The warm-up served as a brainstorming element for the project that was to come. Once all of the students arrived and they had some time to fill out their chart, the teacher led a discussion about perception. She facilitated their talk by asking guiding questions to help students understand the concept. Then, the book was read and discussed as it related to the big idea of perception.
